Do you know a high school senior (perhaps your own child) who has demonstrated leadership and community service during their high school years? The Downtown Organization and the City's Teen Programs have announced that applications are currently being accepted for the 2010 Harriet Miller Youth Leadership Award Scholarship. The Award Scholarship is given to an outstanding youth in the Santa Barbara area in recognition of their leadership and community service. Applicants must be a high school senior in the Santa Barbara Unified School District or a resident of Santa Barbara with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and have completed 45 community service hours by the application deadline, which is January 4, 2010.
Scholarship applications must be returned to the Twelve35 Teen Center in person or by mail. The address is 1235 Chapala Street (corner of Chapala/Victoria Streets) Santa Barbara, California 93101.
A selection committee comprised of representatives from the Santa Barbara Youth Council and the Downtown Organization will review all applications and choose a recipient. Once a decision has been made, the recipient of the Harriet Miller Youth Leadership Award Scholarship will be notified by mail or telephone. The award and scholarship check will be presented at a luncheon scheduled for January 14, 2010 at the annual luncheon hosted by the Downtown Organization.

Santa Barbara Golf Club ("Muni") Offers 20% Discount

To encourage golfers to come out and enjoy the course during recent construction, the City is offering a 20% discount on all greens fees (except with Axxess card) and has brought back Senior rates on Fridays. Both offers are for a limited time and will expire when construction is completed.
In spite of the construction and the repositioning of the #5 and #11 greens, the course is in great shape, uncrowded and easy to schedule tee times through the internet, phone or walk-ins. “In addition to playing on a great local course, golfers also have the opportunity to see these projects develop and witness the further greening of the course,” explains Director of Golf Chris Talerico.
